The text ” poets under pressure: governing , aging and facing execution” by robert pinsky is related merely to queen elizabeth poems , only by looking the title the title of the text we can realize this because she treated this ‘themes’ in her writimgs such as ” when i was fair and young” . Maybe, tichborne can be relsted to queen elizabeth with the fact that he wastes and thinks in otherwise to her in terms of oppresion of religion , but at the same time treating the same themes such as aging and passing of time, tempus fugit.
    B) introduction of tichborne
Poem way of writimg and thinking of tichborne and queen elizabeth
    Poets seen as priviledged people

  2. Juan Ignacio Lopez Vargas says:

    1) It is as if Chidiock Tichborne was mocking Queen Elizabeth in his final poem before his execution. He wrote a simple-word poem, such as ”When I Was Fair and Young” (from Queen Elizabeth), that both are similar because they talk about how fast life passes by and they could have enjoyed more. ”My youth is gone, and yet I am but young,” It seems as if they hadn’t enojoyed life the most and they are regreting that.
    2) -Tichborne wrote a memorable lament before his execution, for himself.
    -Simple vocabulary in the poem.
    -Queen Elizabeth oppresed Tichborne’s religion

  3. Emi Molmenti says:

    1. Both poems share the theme as they were both written in the same period of time which was the renaissance. This theme are time passing by, carpe diem, momento mori and tempus fuguit. The lrycal I of both poems regrets his past. They would have prefered to enjoyed life instead of leting it past. Tichborne, was near death so he was analysing his life before dying and he realizes what he hadnt done yet and would never can. Elizabeth, meaning that now she was old so she should have enjoyed life while young and beautiful when a lot of men wanted to marry her. Once youth dissapeared power also faded away. Also, both poems are structed poems, ´Elegy´ has 3 stanzas with 6 lines each and ´When I was fair and young´ 4 stanzas with 4 lines each. Also the fact, that both poems end with the same phrase in each stanza so that it creates focus. Tichborne writes ´And now i live, and my life is done´ he wants to make emphasis on the fact that he is alive, however his life ended. He is going to be killed on the following day so he was dead on life. His destiny has been drawn for him, and there was no way out. Queen Elizabeth writes ´Go, go, go seek some other where, importune me no more´. It is the same phrases but in each stanza is used to make emphasis in someting different. In the first stanza, for example, it emphasis the fact that she could be arrogant and afford treating men like this because so many loved her that one wouldn´t change her life at all.

    2. The main ideas are that Chidiock Tichborne was going to be executed on the following day of writing Elegy. He was accused of ploting against Queen Elizabeth. Also the fact that the poem was a memorable lament, or elegy, to himself. What´s more, that he repeats the idea of an early death. Furthermore, the fact that education was available for a privileged few so excellent poems where written by powerful figures and in this case by someone that tried to murder one powerful figure.

In both cases it can be observed the fact that they both regret not having enjoyed life before, because now is too late and the train have passed.
    2)

    1.
The text is related to Queen Elizabeth’s poems because they both are written when they realise their lives had come to an end. Although Elizabeth didn’t knew she was going to die, as Tichborne who was going to be drawn and quartered, they analyse their lives and glorify youth, and regret not having taken advantage of it. Now, life is finishing and they can’t do nothing but lament.

    2.
Tichborne is about to die since he was convicted of treason for plotting the assassination of Queen Elizabeth, so he writes ”Elegy” after being executed.
Although Tichborne’s the poem is written in a simple way, it has a strong story behind and it describes that terrible moment with compact metaphors.
”When I was Fair and Young” of Queen Elizabeth is a poem written in a similar way and declarative manner.

Both texts have share the same theme, which is that “Time passes by”. The relation between the text of Tichborne and the poem of Queen Elizabeth is that they both have the same theme of “Times passes by” and with this frase I also mean death that is present on this two texts. Both want as to think that we have to make match of time (in other words Carpe Diem) and enjoy life.

  10. Sebastian Borda says:

Both poems “When I was Fair and Young” and Tichborns “Elegy” have in common the fact that time had taken what they valued most, their beauty. In Tichborns “Elegy” he mentions how his “prime of youth” is gone, time has taken his beauty and he cant go back. He then compares passing time and not taking advantage of it by mentioning that “The fruit is dead, and yet the leaves are green” and “The spring is past, and yet it hath not sprung”.
In the poem “When I was Fair and Young” Queen Elisabeth writes that before time had passed she was graced an beautiful (When I was fair and young, then favor graced me.), but now when she is old the things that were in favor of her beauty know were a pain and against her (As soon as he had said, such change grew in my breast, That neither night nor day I could take any rest.)
